P3-D in Kourou angekommen!

Der Container mit dem AMSAT P3-D Satelliten wiegt etwa 1000 Kg, der zweite Container mit dem SBS-Adapter und dem Testequipment wiegt rund 1600 Kg. Beide Container passten übrigens gerade noch in den Laderaum einer 767 Passagiermaschine.

Zunächst wurden die Container vom AMSAT Team in Orlando per LKW nach Atlanta gebracht, dann ging die Reise mit einem Frachtflugzeug am 17. Januar 2000 zunächst nach Paris und von dort mit einer 767 dann nach Cayenne in französisch Guayana.

Anschließend wurde P3-D per LKW zum ARIANE-Startgelände (Center Spatial Guyanese) in Kourou gebracht. Eine andere Möglichkeit als über Paris bestand nicht, da es keine Direktflüge aus USA gibt und selbst bei mehrfachen Wechsel der Maschinen wären die Flugzeuge einfach zu klein gewesen.

Begleitet wurde P3-D von Bob Davis (KF4KSS) und Jay Ramdas, beides Mitarbeiter vom Integrations-Team in Orlando und von Peter Gülzow (DB2OS), P3-D Operations Manager.

P3-D wird bis zu dem eigentlichem Beginn der Startvorbereitungen in einem klimatisierten Integrationsgebäude auf dem Startgelände gelagert. Alle Systeme bleiben ausgeschaltet, auch die Flugbatterien werden noch nicht geladen, sodass bis dahin kein Personal vor Ort erforderlich ist.

AMSAT P3-D soll als erste sekundäre Nutzlast auf einer ARIANE 5 Rakete in 2000 gestartet werden.

The transport to Kourou over a distance of about 70 km was carried out by a truck convoi.	The *huge* final assembly building (BAF) for the ARIANE 5. This is where the payloads will be mated to the launcher. There is another huge building called BIL, which is the launch vehicle assembly building.

Purging the spacecraft container with nitrogen.	The container with the P3-D satellite weighs approximately 1000 kg, the second container with the SBS-adapter and test equipment weighs approximately 1600 kg. Both containers just barely find room in the cargo hold of the 767 aircraft.
	P3-D is now located in the clean room at the Ariane 5 BAF (Final Assembly Building) at the AR5 launch preparation area in Kourou. It should be there in perfect shape until we start our launch campaign. With all systems turned off and flight batteries uncharged, no personnel is required on location during ths period.
